 DETERGENTS

The Detergent Regulation (EC) No 648/2004 set by the European Union established a comprehensive framework for the placement and use of detergents within the EU, focusing on ensuring environmental safety and public health. Its primary aim was to harmonize the standards across EU member states, setting strict biodegradability requirements for surfactants used in detergents and introducing clear labeling and safety information to protect consumers and ecosystems.
Recently, a proposal for an updated regulation has been introduced to better accommodate innovative and eco-friendly cleaning solutions, such as microbial cleaning agents (MBCA). This new proposal seeks to comprehensively regulate these advanced products under EU law, ensuring they meet contemporary environmental and safety standards.
